Choosing a layout for your site is usually one of the first steps in designing a web site, though the layout may change as you work on the final design. In today’s design world there is no typical layout, and some will argue for 2 column layout, but there will be disagreements as to which side the menu area should be on.

You will need to select both a header and a body layout for your site. Click on the image on the left to view some basic header layouts, with the style used on this site highlighted. Then click on the image to the right to see some suggested body layout options, again with the layout for this site highlighted. As we begin the design process for your web site, these will be some of the first questions we ask you.

The navigation menu on your site will be built from all of the pages you create. There are limitless possibilities for the style of your navigation items. Click the image on the right for some sample ideas.

Most content management systems will allow you to create pages within pages, and the menu will include a drop down similar to the style on this site. For an example, hover your mouse over the “Design Ideas” tab on this site. You will be able to choose the colors you would like in your menus as well.
